Women's Leadership Program

When it comes to promoting the importance of women in the field of leadership program, the Elizabeth J Somers Women’s Leadership Program wlp truly delivers. The program forms a key role in the academic opportunities offer by George Washington University. It is a freshmen level, residential, year-long, academic program and remains true to the legacy of Elizabeth J Somers through the exploration of issues relative to women’s leadership while also meeting some of George Washington University general curriculum requirements, school requirements and prerequisite courses for many its majors.

WLP is a year-long program. Each semester students enroll in classes and participate in the seminar. The fall term is devoted to learning the theories and components of leadership with some 'hands-on' activities. The spring term provides many 'hands-on' activities with continued opportunities to define and refine the concept of leadership.

WLP is designed for 1st year students. The intimacy of the program and the campus provide 1st year students with a small, close-knit community within medium size university within a large city. This setting is a wonderful way for a student to be introduced to life and learning at a major university. Students enjoy the access of the WLP with the full features of the university.

Michelle Krusiec

Born to Taiwanese parents on October 2, 1974, Michelle Krusiec was sent to the United States at age 5 to live with her adoptive parents, her Taiwanese aunt and Caucasian American uncle, in Virginia Beach, VA, so her mother could better cope with her two brothers. In Taiwan, she is better known by her Chinese name, Yang Ya-Huei, with Yang being her biological father's surname.

Michelle, who speaks English and Mandarin Chinese as a second language, began formal training at the Virginia Governor's Magnet School for the Arts and graduated with a Theater and English Degree from Virginia Tech University in 1995.
